Department Best Practice |
---|
1. Title of the Practice: Certificate course in ‘Human Rights’
2. Objectives:
• To introduce democratic values to students.
• To give the knowledge about the rights of human being.
• To create responsible citizen for Indian democracy.
3. Context:
The university curriculum does not include the information about the ‘Human Rights’ which is initial for the better living of an individual in co-existance culture. Thus, the college students lacks the awareness about the universal human right agreed by the government of India to all its citizens. To bridge this gap, it was decided during the meeting of departmental staff with the IQAC that teh college must take efforts to help the student develop their understanding about the universal human right. And as a part of this the department of sociology, initially in collaboration with the department of history, decided to start a short duration course for college students.
4. The Practice:
The course syllabus is developed by the departmental staff with the help of the expert academician and human right workers. The input are provided by the department staff and at times guest lectures are organized to provide additional inputs to the student participants. Posture exhibitions are organized on the issue of human rights. Group discussions are conducted on issues such as ‘death sentance for crime’, ‘Euthanasia/mercy killing’, etc. Assessment is conducted at the end of the course and certificate are awarded by the college to the successful participants.
5. Evidence of Success:
The students have developed better understanding of human rights which indirectly results in better citizenship.
